There are many types of Development Zones available. You unlock new ones as you unlock new Buildings.
Residential
Villagers can build their home in residential area
Paint this zone in areas where you want your Villagers to build their homes.
Unlocked by: Market (Gathering/Berries)
Extraction
Allow wood cutting, stone cutting, and berries / mushroom gathering
Paint this zone in areas where you want your workers to gather resources.
Unlocked by: Default (available from beginning)
Forbidden Land
Nobody will walk on the Lord's land
Paint this zone in areas where you do not want your villagers walking.
Not working as of v0.1.34.c.
Farm
Paint this zone in areas where you want your Farmers to plant fields or raise sheep.
Unlocked by: Gaining 1 Serf
Reforestation
Paint this zone in areas where you want your Forester Camps to plant new trees.
Unlocked by: Gaining 1 citizen
